EDGE: I suppose a watershed moment would have been seeing The Jam on Top of the Pops and realizing that actually not knowing how to play was not a problem, in that music was more about energy and trying to say something and not necessarily about musicianship. So it was a great encouragement to hear these bands were playing very simple stuff, the way we naturally played, with total commitment, ten times as fast as was appropriate and with very little in the way of subtlety, just bashing it out. Which is what we were doing to everything anyway, so it fitted perfectly
